All or Nothing: Arsenal
Summary
Arsenal hasn’t really been relevant as a top club in the English Premier League since Arsène Wenger’s heyday. Some might even say the club has lost its soul a bit, especially with the sacking of icons like Gunnersaurus in 2020.
Amazon Prime’s new All or Nothing documentary series looks at the club’s travails under rookie coach, Mikel Arteta during season 2021-22.
A season filled with promise goes off the rails quickly and it offers a fascinating insight into how managers, like Arteta motivate and engage with their players through the good and bad moments.
The real star of the show? I’d argue Arteta. He comes across well to me and also displays a real level of decency as a person. The much-maligned Granit Xhaka was another standout character to emerge from the show in my opinion, you can’t doubt that he is trying his best for the club.
Does it offer really, in-depth analysis? No. But it isn’t meant to either. Instead, it offers a snapshot of a team in transition and the demands placed on everyone at a top-level soccer club in the Premier League.
For me, the most interesting parts of the eight-episode documentary are the dressing room reactions after matches. Who knew footballers would be immediately on their cell phones following 90 minutes of running about?
Overall, All or Nothing: Arsenal is an enjoyable series worth your time, but doesn’t come close to Netflix’s Sunderland series.
