On a visit to Atlanta, I got the chance to go to the College Football Hall of Fame.
The verdict?
An awesome experience for both sports fans and non-sports fans.
Ticket prices
Firstly, tickets are pretty reasonable in pricing ($24.99) – see the Hall of Fame’s website here for more. You should easily gain access even if you buy tickets on the day.
The biggest sights at the College Football Hall Of Fame
Walking into the main hall is an experience as pretty much every major US college program’s helmet is stacked in front of you. They’ve called it the quad.
From memory, there are roughly three major exhibit floors containing a rich historical account of the game’s growth and you can go at your own pace (my visit was roughly an hour and a half to two hours in length).
The next section of the museum that’ll catch your eye is the playing field. Check the photo out below of what it looks like. You queue up to either kick a field goal or throw a 30+ yard bomb down the field. You best be making that field goal if you have the guts to try, it is only a 20-yarder!
Major trophies are on display too
The next major section to see is where you’re up close and personal with the Heisman trophy (awarded each year to the game’s best player) and the National Championship trophy (also one of my all-time favorite pieces of hardware in all of sports).
There’s also a very cool section on the evolution of the apparel that players wear, how their diets have changed and also a focus on some of the game’s greatest coaches.
My favorite part of the Hall of Fame experience
I’m a sucker for anything media-related in any museums and it was no different at the Hall of Fame. There’s a replica, life-sized ESPN College Game Day desk, along with a mock broadcast setup.
Sadly the display wasn’t fully working when I was there but I loved seeing it up close and person.
My Verdict of the College Football Hall of Fame
Go! Atlanta has plenty to see but you should put the Hall of Fame within your top three. It appeals to all ages and if you’re feeling peckish afterward, you’re in luck, a Chick-A-Fil (an official sponsor of course) is located right next store to the museum.
